Greater North Atlantic Liassic Petroleum Systems Synthesis

Andrew Bishop Liassic Petroleum Systems Image

In the absence of definitive, direct evidence for a Liassic (i.e. Lower Jurassic) petroleum system offshore Nova Scotia, information is required on source rock analogs around the greater North Atlantic region.

The primary aim of this study is to compile and synthesize information on organic rich sediments, as well as any associated known hydrocarbon occurrences, of Liassic age in the Mesozoic basins around the North Atlantic. Consideration will also be given to known Liassic age petroleum systems of global significance with a view to identifying any geochemical characteristics which are diagnostic for hydrocarbons of this age.
