OERA Intern Interview with Savanna Cabrita

Why did you apply for an internship at OERA?
The opportunity to work as an intern for OERA was irresistible for me. It has been exciting to learn from one of the province’s leading non-profit organizations and to continue my growing interest in the energy sector in Nova Scotia. Growing up in Nova Scotia, I have always wanted to learn more about tidal energy and the project management of our tidal projects.

Why did you apply for an internship at OERA?
I applied to OERA because I have an interest in the energy industry and am drawn to the innovation happening in this field, especially in renewables. OERA is driving some of this innovation and I was excited at the opportunity to be able to gain experience in both sustainable energy research and project management.

Why did you apply for an internship at OERA?
I applied for an internship at OERA because of my educational background in a Master of Public Administration program and experience in a government policy setting, specifically that of Nova Scotia’s Department of Environment. Being able to work in the field of energy and renewables was a huge draw for me as I wanted to learn more about Nova Scotia’s efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Christopher Sangster

Time spent as a child on the beaches of his home province instilled in Chris Sangster a natural curiosity about his surroundings. “My interest in geology began when I was quite young,” he says. “My parents and I spent a lot of time exploring the beaches around Nova Scotia and collecting interesting rocks and sometimes fossils which we would come across.”

Jessie Lilly

For Jessie, holiday trips to Vancouver Island, charter fishing excursions with her dad and becoming a certified diver at the age of 15 sparked her interest in marine ecology. These experiences made her aware of the tough balance between sustaining fisheries and preserving ecosystems, leading her to want to pursue fisheries science.

Jordan Kamga

Growing up, Cameroon native Jordan Kamga longed to know more about the inner workings of the stuff he encountered in his daily life. It’s a desire that helped set him on the path he’s on today.
